Is spoken English a challenge for you? Are people struggling to understand you? Do you want to improve your communication skills? Accent Modification Clinic Learning a second language or speaking in a different environment can be challenging and stressful. There are many things to learn – vocabulary, grammar, local phrases and pronunciation. At the University of Auckland Clinics’ Accent Modification Clinic, we aim to turn this challenge into an achievable goal which can make your life easier and support your work life to be more successful. Accent modification does not mean that your voice will “Sound Kiwi”. You will still keep the distinctive features of your speech which sound like you, but there will be changes to aspects of your speech which make it easier for others to understand you. Our aim is to explain what needs to change and to teach you how to make these simple changes. You will hear a difference!

We offer:

• one-to-one sessions with an experienced Speech-language therapist
• detailed assessment of your own speech patterns
• identification of your goals to determine your personal priorities
• specific plans to help modify your accent

An initial session is recommended during which an assessment is undertaken and your goals are discussed. Following this, if therapy will be helpful to you, further sessions can be booked. The clinic is based at the Tāmaki Innovation Campus.
